Sequart Organization and Respect! Films are proud to announce the DVD release of their latest documentary, She Makes Comics, a film spanning the history of women in comics as creators, fans, and everything in between.

She Makes Comics tells the little-known story of women in comics, highlighting the contributions they have made to the medium since the turn of the 20th century. It features interviews with such prominent figures as historian Trina Robbins, underground comics creator Joyce Farmer, former DC Comics publisher Jenette Kahn, DC / Vertigo founder Karen Berger, Elfquest creator Wendi Pini, Captain Marvel writer Kelly Sue DeConnick, and dozens of others.

It is executive produced by Sequart's Julian Darius and Mike Phillips and Columbia University comics librarian Karen Green.

 

She Makes Comics tells the little-known story of women in comics, highlighting the contributions they have made to the medium since the turn of the 20th century. It features interviews with such prominent figures as historian Trina Robbins, Captain Marvel writer Kelly Sue DeConnick, underground comics artist Joyce Farmer, former DC Comics publisher Jenette Kahn, Wendi Pini, Colleen Doran, Karen Berger, and dozens of others.

 

She Makes Comics is now available to order on DVD and as a digital download at SheMakesComics.com. The digital version is shipping now! DVD orders shipping domestically and placed by 16 December will arrive in time for the holidays.

 

Sequart and Respect!, whose previous credits include comics docs Grant Morrison: Talking with Gods, Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts, and The Image Revolution, crowdfunded She Makes Comics through Kickstarter, raising $54,000 with nearly 1500 backers.

Sequart Organization is proud to announce that the Fredric Wertham documentary Diagram for Delinquents, directed by Robert A. Emmons, Jr., is now available for download purchase and DVD preorder.

 

In 1950, America was in a state of panic. Juvenile delinquency was destroying the very fabric of society. Ninety percent of all children were reading comic books. In 1954, psychiatrist Dr. Fredric Wertham wrote a scathing indictment of comics called Seduction of the Innocent. Its central premise: Comic books were the leading contributing factor to juvenile delinquency. That same year, Dr. Wertham testified at special hearings on comic books at the Senate Subcommittee to Investigate Juvenile Delinquency in the United States. Comic books were on trial!

 

Diagram for Delinquents captures the zeitgeist of late 1940s and early 1950s America and investigates how the funny books found themselves on the fire. Using expert and comic book insider interviews, never seen before historical photographs and films, and animation, Diagram goes further than any previous comic book documentary to explore and understand the controversial figure at the center of this American tale: Fredric Wertham.

 

The movie is currently available for purchase as a download from the Sequart store, including a version with over an hour of bonus material. Grant Morrison’s BATMAN Run Subject of New Sequart Book

Sequart Organization is proud to announce the release of The Anatomy of Zur-en-Arrh: Understanding Grant Morrison's Batman, by Cody Walker.

 

Grant Morrison has made a career of redefining heroes, but his work with Batman has been the most comprehensive. From Arkham Asylum and JLA to his recent seven-year run on the Batman titles, Morrison has redefined and reworked the Caped Crusader from the ground up. He's also introduced new characters (such as Damian Wayne) and new concepts (such as Batman, Inc.).

 

The Anatomy of Zur-En-Arrh looks at how Morrison's run understands and reinterprets Batman's long history. Also, an exclusive interview with Morrison rounds out the book.
